The desert is a feeling,
not a zip code.

Northern Cactus Co. was born from a simple idea: bring a little bit of the rugged mountains and wild desert home to Minnesota.

Founder Johnny Kaiyalethe has always been drawn to landscapes where nature has to be tough to survive—rocky mountain terrain, windswept trails, and desert landscapes where resilient plants thrive against the odds. When he returned home to Minnesota, he wanted to recreate that feeling in his own backyard.

But Minnesota brings its own challenge: cold, snow, and long winters.

Instead of letting the climate stand in the way, Johnny set out to find plants that could meet it head-on. He carefully selected cacti and other hardy plants for their ability to withstand cold conditions, while designing rugged, practical garden tools made for getting the job done.

That vision became Northern Cactus Co.

Today, we’re about more than just cacti and garden tools. We’re about bringing together two landscapes that seem worlds apart—the rugged North and the wild desert—and proving that with the right plants, tools, and a little determination, beauty can thrive anywhere.

From Minnesota backyards to gardens inspired by the mountains and desert, Northern Cactus Co. is here to help you grow something tough, distinctive, and uniquely yours.

Built for the North. Inspired by the wild.
